Make the course part of the holiday
Choose the course first. Then find a base that works for the journey, arrive the night before and add time to explore after you finish.

Before you pay for the room
- Ask where the course starts. A town label can cover several marinas and classrooms.
- Check what is included. Some practical courses include nights aboard; shore-based courses usually do not.
- Leave room for changes. Prefer flexible train tickets and cancellable accommodation until the provider confirms your place.
Questions about planning a training break
Should I book a hotel for the whole course?
Not always. Some multi-day practical sailing courses involve staying aboard. Check the provider’s joining instructions before paying for accommodation beyond the night before.
Can I reach an RYA course by train?
Yes, but the town shown on a course is not necessarily its exact meeting point. Check the provider address and the final bus, taxi or walking connection before booking your journey.
When should I arrive?
For an early start, arriving the evening before removes the risk of a delayed morning journey. Confirm the course start time with the provider first.
